God Help Us All

AFGHAN GIRLS MUSIC GROUP THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS RELEASE ‘GOD HELP US ALL’ FEATURING TOM MORELLO, JOHN ONDRASIK (FIVE FOR FIGHTING), BETH HART AND MANY MORE ON FEBRUARY 18

A NON-PROFIT, 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION CONSISTING OF WAR-TORN, POVERTY-STRICKEN GIRLS RELEASE SONG ON SIXTH MONTH MARKER OF AMERICA’S WITHDRAWAL FROM AFGHANISTAN

Kabul, Afghanistan (February 18, 2022) — THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS announce their newly recorded Tom Morello-penned song, “GOD HELP US ALL,” featuring an all-star lineup of guest musicians — Tom Morello, Victoria Williams, Beth Hart, John Ondrasik (Five For Fighting), Julien Baker, Nandi Bushell, Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), Cass McCombs, Aaron Lee Tasjan, William Dagsher, David Mansfield (Bob Dylan), Gary Griffin, Frank Locrasto and Nils Lofgren (Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young).  The song was produced by Lanny Cordola and Sarmad Ghafoor.

With the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban on August 15, 2021, new challenges were created for the country’s people. Members of THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that served as Afghanistan’s only school of music where guitar lessons were taught to war-torn, poverty-stricken girls and young women until that fateful day, have been greatly affected. In the immediate aftermath, THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS issued the following statement: “Today, our lives are in great danger as the success we achieved in becoming part of an international cultural scene has now marked us for persecution.”

Just weeks prior, Lanny Cordola, the group’s founder and director, recorded a number of songs with the girls, including “GOD HELP US ALL.” But the group’s activities came to a halt when the Taliban took over. “It has been a hellish past six months trying to evacuate and relocate the girls and their families,” Cordola says. “Tom Morello’s soul hymn perfectly encapsulates this feeling.”

He adds, “The convergence of all these talents truly shows how music can unify artists from different idioms and cultures to lend their voices to the vulnerable, marginalized suffering souls of the Earth. I also feel this song reaches out to the inner ache that so many are feeling these days. Tom has been a Godsend to the girls and I on so many levels. He allowed us to rearrange his composition to fit the girls’ style of singing and playing, which was very generous of him. He also enlisted Serj Tankian and Nandi Bushell.”

When they learned about the situation, both Tankian and Bushell were immediately on board.

“The singing voice is one of the best representations of people’s spirits. It can never be confined or locked in,” Tankian remarks. “It was an honor to work with THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS on this song along with my peers in music.”

Bushell, the 11-year-old multi-instrumentalist sensation who challenged Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl to a drum-off (and won), adds, “After Tom reached out and told me about THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS, their song and the plight of the girls, I wanted to help in any way I could.”

While he prepares more videos and music for 2022, Cordola’s primary focus is to find a safe haven for the girls and their families. Today, Afghans face famine and food insecurity, and one million children are at risk of STARVING to death unless international aid intervenes.

“We appeal to the international community, to diplomats, politicians, news media and art institutions as well as NGOs to respond to this dire situation,” he stresses.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Tom Morello is hopeful this song will help create more awareness around THE MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS and their current predicament. “‘God Help Us All’ is a song both for and with some very special girls in Afghanistan who are in grave danger. Prior to the Taliban takeover, GIRL WITH A GUITAR took in street orphans and other girls in Afghanistan that have endured significant trauma and used music as a rehabilitation tool and means of working through their problems, their histories, and their hopes. I’ve had the honor of collaborating with these wonderful kids. Since the Taliban takeover, their school has been destroyed and the girls are in hiding as they are at extreme risk. This song, which features their beautiful playing and brave voices, is a prayer to the heavens and an appeal to the world to save them and all those suffering from poverty, danger and injustice.”

No stranger to philanthropy, Five for Fighting’s John Ondrasik was committed to being involved from the get-go. “I’m honored to join with the incredible Lanny Cordola, Tom Morello, and all artists singing ‘God Help Us All’ to raise awareness for Lanny’s girls. There is no more vulnerable group than young girls. We have a moral obligation to assist in their evacuation and will not cease until they and their families are safe.”

According to singing sensation Beth Hart, known for collaborating with guitar legends Jeff Beck and Joe Bonamassa, “the video, the song and the love and compassion for those incredibly courageous girls is moving. I am so humbled by the whole project. Thank you for inviting me in, to be a part of the power of love, care, responsibility and the grace of what music can do for others. You took the gift God gave you and used it for the ultimate reason he gave it to you. You’re the bomb! I love you always.”

Nils Lofgren, who’s traversed the planet with both Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, expressed similar sentiment in a joint statement with wife Annie: “I’m honored and grateful to be a part of it. Love and prayers as your work continues to save those precious souls.”
